Our adventures began in the afternoon when we arrived at the brand new Margaritaville Resort in Hollywood Beach, Florida. We walked into the enormous lobby, where we were greeted by a giant royal blue flip flop and a lounge area with swings hanging from the super high ceilings. You knew at this moment you were in paradise and the next thing you heard was Jimmy Buffet’s “cheeseburger in paradise” playing in the background!!!
We checked in at the front desk and were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded because it was my moms birthday and Christmas! We originally had booked an intercostal view double room. When we went up to our room and walked in we were floored. We had been put into one of the two bedroom suites. One bedroom had a king bed with a makeup station and a full bathroom. The other room had two beds and another full bathroom. The living room had two couches, a table, fridge and minibar. The best part of the room was the view from the balcony of the entire property, Boardwalk and beach that was accompanied by two beach chairs. The entire decor of the room was “beach house” themed with blue and green accents and funky decorative pillows. Everything was very clean and well thought out.
The room alone would have been sufficient for us to completely enjoy our stay at the resort, but we knew there was so much more to see and do. We headed down to the pool area and had our first meal at the sundeck bar and grill. We had peel and eat shrimp, Caesar salads, French fries, pretzels with cheese dip, and a burger. The margaritas were great and they had many different varieties. Obviously it is always 5:00 at Margaritaville, but that doesn’t mean there are happy hour specials all day everyday. The waiter brought over dessert with a candle for moms birthday and then we were off to the pool.
We spent the rest of the day poolside and soaked up the sun. We sat by the pool without the water slides, to avoid the small children, and went to use the water slides when we felt like taking a ride. The pool was heated to a comfortable temperature and we were able to enjoy drinks at the pool, thanks to the waitress service.
We spent the evening listening to the live music in the Hollywood Beach bandshell from our balcony!!!! It was so great; we could hear the music perfectly and enjoyed the weather from the 17th floor. We walked over to Billy’s for dinner and enjoyed stone crabs, creamed spinach, NY strip steak, fish tacos and clam chowder along with some key lime pie. We walked back and relaxed in the living room, but hit the pillow early so we would be well rested for the next day.
When we got up we ate at the Margaritaville restaurant for breakfast. They had a buffet, but we decided to order from the menu. They make some of the best huevos rancheros and we also enjoyed the pancakes, French toast and omelette. Then, we grabbed some chairs by the pool and relaxed for a bit. We spent a lot of the day roaming the boardwalk and people watching. The location of Margaritaville is great because it is right in the middle of the busy Boardwalk. Some might be concerned about safety, but there is no need to worry! They have a staffed desk that checks for wristbands as you enter the property and you have to use your key to get into the pool area, as well as up in the elevators. I found that the staff was very attentive and ensured that only hotel guests were within the property.
We were lucky to have another night of live music from the balcony and walked over to Taverna Opa for dinner down the street. This is one of the most fun Greek restaurants in town. They have belly dancers dancing on the tables, music playing and napkins being thrown all over. The food is great and you can’t go wrong with any of the dishes on the menu. We checked out the Margaritaville bar after dinner where they had a band playing and it was fun!
The next day we decided to rent a cabana for the day and had some friends and family come hang out. The cabanas are so nice, have a tv inside, as well as couches and provide a decent amount of shade, which is great. We had a waitress and cabana boy for the day to bring you whatever we needed. So, we had lunch at the cabana by the pool and really took advantage of the water slide all day! We also played some rounds of cards against humanity, which might not be the best game to play with your family, but we went with it anyway and had many laughs. The day ended around 5 and we headed back to Miami for some more family time and for the rest of the vacation.
All in all this resort is fantastic! The facilities are all brand new and the restaurants are good and convenient. The pools are really refreshing and you are steps away from the beach as well. We highly recommend taking a trip to Margaritaville and hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!
