When we pulled up to the resort on the Mekong River, we were amazed at how beautiful it looked from this viewpoint. You could see the individual bungalows lined up with great views of the river below. The trek up to the hotel was a little far, but nothing unbearable. The hotel has a porter service that will carry your baggage up to your bungalow for you. However, they ask for you to pack an overnight bag for the one night stay rather than taking all of your belongings with you up to the hotel. They store your luggage locked on the boat so there is no need to worry about leaving stuff behind. Once you reach the top of the stairs, you arrive at the deck overlooking the river. We were welcomed with cool towels, which were much needed, and a welcome drink of cold lemongrass tea.
We were assigned to bungalow 18, which was a little walk from the main lodge and restaurant. The bungalows were fairly hot when we arrived. Most people on the cruise with us decided to shower at this point, however we knew it was not going to start cooling down so we waited until after dinner. This was a great choice, as we still were very hot and once we got back and showered off after dinner, we were finally cooled down. To our surprise there was nice cold water to shower with as well as hot water. Some reviews had said otherwise, but that is not the case. You are definitely able to regulate the temperature of the shower to your liking, it just might be a little finicky. The housekeeping service had come in during dinner to open up our mosquito net and set our bed for our nights rest. Being that the bungalows are wide open with no screens or seals between the roof and the walls, the mosquito net was definitely needed. We asked one of the women who worked there how to keep the bungalow the coolest at night and she suggested sleeping with the windows open. Even though there is a fan and it does cool down at night, it is definitely best to open up the windows and let the fresh air flow. It became a very comfortable temperature very quickly and we were able to get a good nights rest.
In the morning we enjoyed an amazing view from our bungalow as we prepared for our next day on the river. We enjoyed breakfast and went down to the boat to head to Luang Prabang. We enjoyed the experience of staying in the bungalows at the Luang Say Lodge and felt that this is an experience not to be missed! A big thank you to the staff for ensuring our stay was comfortable and pleasant.
